Award Winning Residential Case Study

George Nicolson were delighted to be appointed by Emma Cross Interior Design to decorate this grand property located south of Edinburgh’s City Centre.

Over 2 phases, our works encompassed the preparation and decoration of the entrance vestibule, family bathroom, lobby, bedrooms (including the master bedroom and en-suite), guest rooms, new dressing room, kitchen, laundry room, new bar, dining room, TV room, drawing room, entrance foyer, halls, stairs, landings, WC, sun room, summer house, garden room and gatehouse.

Throughout the property, specialist wallcoverings were installed to numerous feature walls. Our apprentices were given the opportunity to hang expensive wallcoverings with the supervision and guidance of our skilled operatives. In addition, operatives prepared and decorated ceilings, roses, friezes, cornices, picture rails, walls, doors, facings, windows and skirting. A fixed scaffold was also erected to the stairwell to allow our trained tradespeople to work safely whilst working at height.

The interior design was a mixture of branded paints and bespoke wallcoverings which were hung in several rooms. The end result was a very impressive transformation of a grand property that George Nicolson, Emma Cross Interior Design and the client can be very proud of.

Furthermore, we were also delighted to receive Private Domestic (Post 1919) Project of the Year 2024 Award at the annual Scottish Decorator’s Federation Awards held in March 2025. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff who contributed to making this a winning project.
