George Nicolson Decorators

Case Study

The Fine Art Society

The Fine Art Society instructed George Nicolson to undertake the decoration works to one of the world’s oldest art galleries situated in Dundas Street, in the heart of Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town.

The works included the preparation and decoration of walls and woodwork to the ground and top floor galleries, together with the stair and landing. Our skilled tradespeople applied paint to the walls whilst working off a tube scaffold and applied the paint to the staircase whilst working off ladders. Works were completed within a 2 week period.

The Fine Art Society, Edinburgh, deals in Scottish paintings and sculpture from the 17th century to the present.

The Fine Art Society is one of the world’s oldest art dealerships and has traded from 148 New Bond Street, London, since its foundation in 1876. The Fine Art Society has a long standing relationship with Scotland having first exhibited here in 1969 and taking permanent gallery space in Edinburgh in 1973.

They offer selling and buying services as well as assisting with valuations and framing and conservation of artworks. Their clients include The National Galleries of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland, The National Trust for Scotland to name only a few.
